Moving Between Two Residential Compounds in Jeddah

Relocating from one gated compound in Jeddah to another doubles the organisational challenge: two gates, two security desks and two sets of truck rules, with permitted hours on each side that may not line up. This guide explains how we coordinate both ends in a single plan, what to request from both compound managements before moving day, and where the hours are usually lost and how we avoid it.

Compound → compound · two permits, two gates · truck time windows · service lifts and distant parking · one plan for both ends

Moving truck waiting at a residential compound gate in Jeddah while the entry permit is handed to security

Why compound-to-compound is harder than villa-to-villa

At a standalone villa the truck parks at the door any time. In a compound everything stops at the gate: security wants a prior permit, some compounds set truck hours, ban certain sizes, and impose a service lift or a fixed route inside the building. When both ends are compounds these conditions double and can conflict.

A common example: the first compound allows trucks from eight in the morning and the second bans them after two in the afternoon, so the real working window is six hours rather than a full day. That kind of conflict must be discovered a week ahead, not on the morning of the move.

Jeddah's compounds: different types, different rules

Large villa compounds in north Jeddah have main gates, wide internal streets and parking at every villa, and their rules focus on advance permits and the driver's ID. Multi-storey apartment compounds have service lifts, strict time windows and sometimes a refundable cash deposit against corridor damage. Coastal compounds in Obhur add further limits on truck sizes.

First of all we ask for both compound names and a photo of the moving rules if they are written, or the management phone number so we can ask ourselves, because every compound phrases its conditions its own way. See building management permits in Jeddah compounds.

What to request from your current compound's management

  • Furniture exit clearance: some compounds require proof that rent and utilities are settled before furniture leaves.
  • Permitted truck hours and maximum truck size.
  • Whether a service lift is mandatory and must be booked.
  • Where the truck may park and how far that is from the building.
  • Whether a deposit against corridor damage is required and how it is refunded.

Collect the answers in writing and send them to us with photos of the entrance and corridors; they decide crew size, dollies and start time.

What to request from the new compound's management

  • Entry permit for the truck and crew, with names and ID numbers if required.
  • Permitted entry hours and any blackout days.
  • Booking of the service lift or the designated furniture route.
  • The nearest parking to the building and whether long stops are allowed.
  • Rules for protecting floors and walls in shared corridors.

The most frequent mistake is completing the first compound's paperwork and forgetting the second, so a loaded truck arrives at a gate that will not let it in.

How we build one plan for both ends

We place the exit window and the entry window side by side and find the overlap. If the overlap is narrow we add movers and send two trucks working together instead of two trips, or split the move over two days: load and store overnight in our warehouse, then deliver the next morning inside the new compound's window.

You receive the plan in writing by the hour: truck arrival at gate one, loading cut-off, arrival at gate two and expected handover, so you can pass it to both managements.

Send both compound names and a video of the unit on WhatsApp for an hour-by-hour plan and a written quote.

Truck size and gate restrictions

Some compounds ban large trucks and allow medium dynas only; others ban entry altogether and require furniture to be moved from the gate on dollies. We choose the size allowed by the stricter of the two compounds, and if necessary send two medium trucks instead of one large one.

Where entry is banned entirely we use large-wheel dollies and count the gate-to-building distance in crew numbers and hours, stating it in the quote.

Service lifts and shared corridors

In apartment compounds the service lift is booked for a slot, padded with blankets, and the corridors are laid with protection boards. We follow the route management specifies even if it is longer, because deviating exposes you to a fine or a deduction from your deposit. We photograph the corridors before starting and after finishing to prove their condition.

Lift protection details are in protecting walls, door frames and elevators.

Distant parking and the dolly route

If the permitted parking is far from the building, every piece crosses that distance on a dolly, which slows the work more than clients expect. We solve it by adding movers split into an inside team that dismantles and wraps and an outside team that runs the dollies, and by loading small items into wheeled containers to cut the number of runs.

Measuring the distance from parking to entrance before moving day is part of the survey, not a surprise on the day.

Dismantling and packing inside the first compound

Because the time window is limited, we start dismantling and packing before the truck reaches the gate when management lets the crew in early, so pieces are ready when the truck window opens and all of it goes into loading. Bedrooms and kitchen first, then the majlis, then appliances.

Every carton carries the room code for the new home, which matters most when unloading happens under a time window at the second compound.

Arriving at the second compound: what happens at the gate

The driver presents the permit and the crew's IDs, security logs the plate number and entry time, and sometimes inspects the load. We send the details a day ahead so they are in the security system, and the crew arrives with a paper copy of the permit and the compound manager's number in case the informed guard is absent.

Then we head straight to the designated parking and protect the lift and corridors before the first piece.

Coastal compounds in Obhur: extra limits

Compounds in North and South Obhur add limits on sizes and times and sometimes require a permit from the resort management rather than security alone, and the road there has weekend traffic. Access details are on dyna truck moving in South Obhur and moving from North Obhur to Al Mohammadiyah.

When moving between a coastal compound and one in the central north we add road time to the window calculations.

Overnight storage as the fix for clashing windows

When the two compounds' windows do not overlap enough, we load on day one within the exit window, keep the furniture overnight in our closed warehouse inside the truck or on racks, and deliver the next morning within the entry window. The extra cost is modest compared with a crew working under a two-hour squeeze.

Short-term storage details are on temporary storage while travelling.

Compound windows do not overlap? Call us and we arrange overnight storage and a morning delivery.

Cash deposits and corridor damage

Some compounds take a refundable deposit from which any corridor or lift damage is deducted. We protect the corridors fully and photograph them before and after, and give you the photos to present when claiming the refund. Any damage proven to be ours is covered under the written quote, not from your deposit.

See moving insurance and damage warranty.

Price factors in a compound-to-compound move

Besides load, distance, dismantling and packing, specific factors apply here: parking distance from the building at both ends, truck size limits that may force two vehicles, a narrow time window that may require more movers or an overnight store, and work outside normal hours when compound windows are early or late.

We state all of it as clear lines in the quote; see hidden moving costs to avoid for what should always be written down.

Five mistakes that lose a moving day between compounds

One permit instead of two, a truck bigger than one end allows, no service lift booking, arriving in a closed window, and forgetting the clearance the first compound requires before furniture leaves. Each can mean a lost day and a crew waiting at your expense.

We review the list with you a week before the date and confirm it two days before; that is part of the service, not an extra.

When a two-stage move is better

When the load is large and the second compound's window is short, or when you receive the new unit's keys only days after handing over the old one. In both cases we separate loading from delivery with storage and reassemble at delivery as on a normal moving day.

See moving before a property handover deadline if handover pressure is what pushes you to two stages.

Why Al Ostoura for compound moves

Because we coordinate with compound managements daily and know the rules of compounds across north Jeddah, Obhur, Al Mohammadiyah and Al Shati, because the plan is sent in writing by the hour, and because we have a warehouse that resolves window conflicts. Al Ostoura Moving serves every district of Jeddah, and moving between Jeddah neighbourhoods covers the cross-district routes.

Send both compound names and a video of the unit, and we handle the rest.

How to start

Send on WhatsApp a video of the current unit, both compound names and their rules if available, floor and lift at both ends, and your preferred date. We reply with a written quote and an hour-by-hour plan, send you the list of documents to request from each management, then confirm the permits two days before the date.

If your window is very tight or your handover date is close, call directly so we can arrange two stages or an expanded crew.

Book your compound-to-compound move with both permits arranged and a crew that knows the gates.
