Moving an apartment in Al Nahdah
Al Nahdah is a residential district in north Jeddah where multi-storey apartment buildings sit alongside villas and independent floors. Most of the moves we handle here are apartments: a family flat with three or four bedrooms, a compact one-bedroom for a working professional, or a rooftop unit at the top of a building. Each needs a different plan, because floor level, lift size and stair width shape the job more than the number of rooms.
So our first questions are not just "how many rooms?" but "which floor, is there a lift that fits a sofa, where can the truck park, and when do you hand back the keys?"
Apartment types and what changes
| Apartment | Main challenge | Our approach |
|---|---|---|
| Ground floor | Easy access, sometimes a tight yard | Fast move with a smaller crew |
| Mid floor with lift | Lift size and waiting | Dismantle large items, pad the lift |
| No lift | Stairs and landings | Bigger crew, loads split up |
| Rooftop unit | Top of the stairs, sun-exposed roof | Early start, heat-safe wrapping |
| Furnished flat | Separating your items from the landlord's | Coloured labels and joint check |
Quotes from photos
Most Al Nahdah apartments can be quoted from photos. Ask someone to photograph each room from two angles, open the wardrobes so we can see inside, and include the kitchen, storeroom and balcony, which nearly always hold more than people expect. Add a photo of the building entrance and the lift or stairs. From these we estimate cartons, items to dismantle, and whether one truck is enough or two trips are needed. For large flats or unusual items such as a piano or heavy safe, we arrange a short visit.
WhatsApp photos of your rooms and building entrance, and we will reply with a plan and written quote.
How the move runs
- Days before: written quote, confirmed date, and boxes delivered if you are packing yourself.
- Morning: floor, lift and door-frame protection.
- Packing: fragile items first, then linen and clothes.
- Disassembly: beds, wardrobes, dining tables and anything that will not pass whole.
- Loading: heavy items deep in the truck, fragile ones on top and strapped.
- Unloading: every carton straight to the room written on it.
- Assembly: beds and wardrobes first, then everything else.
Crew size and trucks
A two-bedroom ground-floor flat may need one truck and a small team, while a four-bedroom fourth-floor flat with no lift needs more people and more time even if the volume is similar. Every floor without a lift adds effort, and every large piece that has to be dismantled adds assembly time. Your quote states the crew size and the truck size or number of dyna trucks, so you know exactly what you are paying for and nobody discovers at midday that another trip is needed.
Lifts in Al Nahdah buildings
Lifts in many residential buildings are mid-sized: fine for chairs and cartons, too small for a long sofa or an assembled wardrobe. We measure large pieces against the lift depth and height; if they will not fit, we dismantle them or carry them down the stairs with enough hands. Lift walls are padded with blankets. In buildings with many families we avoid hogging the lift by staging items outside the flat and taking them down in organised rounds.
Stairs and tight turns
In buildings without a lift, the stair landing is usually the narrowest point. A three-seat sofa may pass when tilted upright, while a corner sofa needs its sections separated. Wardrobes usually go down with doors removed, sometimes with the frame dismantled. We use lifting straps to spread the weight, with one mover above and one below to guide each piece clear of walls and banisters.
Packing room by room
- Kitchen: plates wrapped individually and packed on edge, glasses in divided cartons.
- Living room: sofas in heavy-duty film, tables with corner guards and blankets.
- Bedrooms: mattresses in clean covers, clothes in wardrobe boxes.
- Electronics: screens in bubble wrap and an outer carton, cables bagged and labelled.
- Balcony and storeroom: loose items in well-sealed cartons.
A sample day for a three-bedroom flat
| Approx. time | Task |
|---|---|
| Early morning | Crew arrives, protects entrance and lift |
| First hours | Kitchen and fragile items packed |
| Mid-morning | Bedrooms and dining table dismantled |
| Before noon | Loading in order |
| Afternoon | Unloading at the new flat |
| Late afternoon | Beds and wardrobes reassembled, first-night boxes opened |
Times vary with floor level, distance and volume, but this shows how the day flows.
Handing back your rented flat
Many Al Nahdah residents rent, and handing the flat back on time matters for your deposit. After the last item leaves we walk through with you to check the storeroom, wardrobe tops and balcony. We suggest photographing the empty flat, noting electricity and water meter readings, and removing picture hooks if your landlord asks. Moving a day before the handover date leaves time for cleaning.

Getting into the new apartment
We ask the same questions about the new place: floor, lift, parking, and whether it is ready or still being cleaned or finished. New buildings sometimes require a lift booking or special lift protection. If the flat is being opened for the first time on moving day, make sure someone with the keys is there when the truck arrives.
Moving from Al Nahdah to other districts
Many residents move within north Jeddah, others further north to areas such as North Obhur, and some to central or south Jeddah. Distances in the north are fairly short but main roads get congested at peak times, so we time departures around rush hour. For longer moves, bedrooms and the kitchen go on the first trip.

How to prepare
- Declutter before packing starts.
- Keep documents, jewellery and medicines in a box you carry yourself.
- Disconnect the washing machine and empty the fridge a day before.
- Write the destination room on every carton.
- Tell the building caretaker the date.
- Pack a first-night box: bedding, chargers, toiletries and kids' essentials.
Mistakes that slow apartment moves
- Leaving wardrobes full until moving day.
- Not knowing the new building's lift size.
- Forgetting the storeroom and balcony in the estimate.
- Booking the move on handover day with no margin.
- Overloading cartons so they are hard to carry on stairs.
Protecting floors and walls
Apartment floors are usually marble, ceramic or porcelain tiles, which scratch easily when heavy furniture is dragged. We never drag; we carry items or use rubber-wheeled dollies over protection boards, and fit cardboard corner guards to door edges and narrow corridors where wardrobes and sofas pass. That protects your deposit at the old flat and keeps freshly painted walls clean at the new one.
Items that should not go on the truck
Some things are better carried in your own car: jewellery, cash, official documents, daily medicines and laptops. Others should not travel in a moving truck at all for safety reasons, including full gas cylinders, flammable liquids and fuel. We send you this list before moving day so you can set aside your personal box early.
Moving with small children
Families often move with young children. We suggest keeping one room in the old flat as the last to be emptied, where children can stay with their toys away from open doors and moving crews. At the new flat we set up the children's beds first so they have a familiar place to sleep on the first night, and we keep tools, screws and plastic bags in a closed box throughout.
Moving to a smaller flat
If the new apartment is smaller, measure its rooms against your largest pieces before the move and decide what will be stored, sold or donated. Moving furniture that will not fit means paying to move it twice. We can reserve part of the truck for items going to storage and drop them at the warehouse the same day.
