Moving from Al Rawdah to Al Salamah, Jeddah

Al Rawdah and Al Salamah are neighbouring districts in north Jeddah, linked by Sari Street, Prince Sultan Street and Madinah Road, so the drive between them is short. The real work is at each end: getting furniture out of Al Rawdah's villas and apartment blocks, and into Al Salamah's buildings on narrow streets with limited parking. We plan the whole day, from dismantling and packing to loading, transport and reassembly, usually in a single trip.

Moving truck travelling between Al Rawdah and Al Salamah in north Jeddah

The route in brief: two almost adjoining districts

Al Rawdah overlooks several major roads: Madinah Road, Prince Sultan Street, Sari Street and Prince Saud Al Faisal Road. Al Salamah is framed by Sari Street, Madinah Road, King Road, Al Batarji Street and Prince Sultan Street. With so many shared arteries, the distance between the two is short and the truck does not need long expressway runs, only local streets and nearby main roads.

A short distance does not automatically mean an easy move, though. On this route the time is not lost on the road but at two points: getting furniture out of the Al Rawdah home and getting it into the Al Salamah building. So our plan starts with the buildings, not the road.

Leaving Al Rawdah: what kind of home?

Al Rawdah is varied. There are many villas, modern apartment buildings with contemporary designs, and older blocks, some being renovated or rebuilt. Parks and playgrounds are common, especially around Al Rawdah 6. Your starting point could be:

  • A villa: more furniture over several floors, and usually more room for a truck outside.
  • A modern apartment: usually a suitable lift that must be booked and protected.
  • An older apartment block: sometimes narrow stairs and a small lift or none.

We identify the building type first because it changes the crew size and how we bring furniture down.

Arriving in Al Salamah: buildings and parking

Al Salamah is mainly an apartment district, with most buildings around five floors, some with a rooftop annex. Residents describe inner streets as narrow and in places damaged, with potholes and speed bumps, and note that buildings usually provide one parking space per apartment, leaving no room for visitors or a second car. They also mention noticeable congestion at certain times.

For a moving truck, parking outside the Al Salamah building is the biggest challenge on the whole route. Before the day we ask you to:

  • Arrange space outside the entrance with the building guard or neighbours for our arrival time.
  • Send a photo of the street and entrance so we choose the right truck size.
  • Tell us the inside dimensions of the lift, or the stair width if there is none.

Send a photo of the street outside your Al Salamah building on WhatsApp and we will suggest the right truck and number of trips.

Moving day, step by step

  1. Two days before: confirm both addresses, parking in Al Salamah and lift bookings.
  2. Morning: the crew arrives in Al Rawdah, protects floors and entrances, and begins dismantling and packing.
  3. Loading: heavy pieces deep in the truck, then appliances, then cartons, all strapped.
  4. The drive: a short run on nearby roads, choosing the least congested option at that hour.
  5. Arrival: park in the agreed spot and unload room by room.
  6. Assembly: beds first, then wardrobes and kitchen, then everything else.

A mid-size apartment can usually be completed in one day, often in a single trip with the right truck.

Protecting both buildings

In Al Rawdah you may be leaving a villa with marble floors or a modern block with a polished lift; in Al Salamah you may be arriving at a building with narrow stairs and close walls. Either way we protect the building before the furniture: runners from the apartment door to the lift or stairs, padding inside the lift, and guards on wall corners and handrails at turns. That avoids disputes with building management and protects your deposit if you are handing back a rented flat. Our guide on protecting walls, door frames and lifts explains the steps.

One trip or two?

Because the route is short, a common question is whether to use one large truck and one trip, or a smaller truck and two trips. On this route the smaller truck is often smarter if the Al Salamah street is too narrow for a large vehicle or the available parking space is small, and a second short run takes little time. If parking is generous, one large truck saves repeated loading and unloading. We decide together after seeing photos of the street.

Three situations we often see on this route

Two-bedroom flat from a modern Rawdah building to an Al Salamah block

Medium volume, a lift at the start and stairs or a small lift at the end. A mid-size crew and one truck are usually enough, and the job can finish in half a day if packing is ready. The main delay is waiting for parking in Al Salamah, so we agree an exact arrival time.

Large family flat on an upper floor without a lift

The stairs at both buildings become the key factor. We split the crew into dismantlers upstairs and carriers below, fully dismantle wardrobes and beds, and may suggest a hoist for items that will not pass the stairs.

Rawdah villa to Al Salamah apartment

This needs the most planning, because there is more furniture than the flat can hold. We sort items into move, store and sell, deliver the apartment items first, and send the rest to storage the same day or later. See our furniture storage page.

Kitchen and appliances

The kitchen is usually the last room to feel settled, so we treat it carefully. The fridge is unplugged and dried a day early, moved upright and left for a few hours before switching on. The washing machine is drained and its drum secured where possible. Crockery and glass are wrapped piece by piece in small cartons marked kitchen and fragile. Kitchen cabinets themselves only move if agreed, because flats in Al Salamah may have different kitchen sizes, and moving appliances alone can be the better option.

Packing for a short trip

Many people assume a short trip needs less packing. In fact most damage happens on stairs, in doorways and during loading, not on the road. We wrap furniture on this route with the same care: blankets on wood, stretch film on sofas, corner board for mirrors and art, and proper cartons for crockery. A short route saves road time, not protection time.

Best times to move between Al Rawdah and Al Salamah

  • Start in the morning before traffic builds on Sari Street and Madinah Road.
  • Avoid school pick-up times near either address if possible.
  • Arriving early in Al Salamah improves the chance of parking before residents return.
  • Month-end and the start of holidays are the busiest periods, so book early.

Common mistakes on short moves

  • Under-packing because it is close.
  • Ignoring parking, so the truck stops far away.
  • Moving everything without sorting, filling the new flat with pieces that do not fit.
  • Not measuring the new lift, leaving large items waiting on the pavement.
