Moving from Al Murjan to North Obhur, Jeddah
Many Al Murjan residents move north to North Obhur for newer housing or a sea view. The route is mostly coastal, but it passes an area with frequent waterfront events, runs into regular roadworks in Obhur, and loops around Obhur creek to reach the northern bank. We plan the date, the route and the crew, and move you from a villa or apartment in Al Murjan to a tower, villa or chalet in North Obhur.

Why people move from Al Murjan to North Obhur
Al Murjan is an upscale, quiet district near the sea and King Road. North Obhur stretches along the waterfront at Jeddah's northern edge and has seen a clear rise in housing units in recent years: new apartment towers, villas in residential plans, and chalets and rest houses. People move between the two for a newer home, a sea-view apartment after a big villa, or the reverse: a larger villa in a new Obhur plan after a flat in Al Murjan.
So the type of move on this route varies a lot from one client to the next, and we always start by asking about both buildings, not just the distance.
What the route looks like
The drive heads north roughly along the coast. Because Obhur creek (Sharm Obhur) separates South Obhur from North Obhur, the route usually loops around the end of the creek to reach the northern bank, then enters the district via Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Street or the roads leading to it from the east. The real distance is therefore longer than a straight line on the map suggests.
North Obhur residents report roadworks throughout the year causing diversions and lane narrowing, and narrow link roads towards Madinah Road near the Camel Roundabout. On the Al Murjan side, the nearby waterfront and Jeddah Corniche Circuit mean some days bring heavy traffic or temporary closures during major events. We check the route and diversions on the morning of the move before setting off.
The starting point: Al Murjan homes
Most Al Murjan homes are multi-storey villas, many with annexes, gardens and pools, furnished with heavy, high-value pieces: marble tables, chandeliers, artwork and large majlis sets. Main streets are wide, such as Ahmed Ibn Taymiyyah Street, which residents say is around 52 metres across, but inner streets outside villas fill with cars in the evenings and at weekends. We choose our arrival time and truck positions so neighbours' gates stay clear.

Send photos of your Al Murjan home and your Obhur address on WhatsApp and we will suggest trucks and the best date.
The destination: North Obhur buildings
- Managed apartment tower: service lift booking, fixed moving hours, lift and corridor protection, sometimes a resident undertaking.
- Building in an inner plan: usually four or five floors, with a small lift or none.
- Villa in a new plan: more space, though some streets may have roadworks.
- Chalet or rest house: outdoor furniture, humidity-sensitive pieces and gates that need coordination with the guard.

Villa to villa
When both ends are villas, volumes are similar and the goal is to settle in fast. We ask for a simple floor plan of the new villa, or visit before moving day, and label every piece with its room and floor in the new house. Everything then goes straight from the truck to its place, instead of piling up in the entrance. If the new villa is in a plan where streets are still being built, we confirm a usable truck entrance and check that no excavation blocks the front of the house on the day.
Big villa to a sea-view apartment
This needs the most planning on this route. Furniture from a multi-floor villa will not all fit into an apartment, however spacious. We measure the new flat, including rooms, doors, lift and balconies, then sort items into three groups: move to Obhur, temporary storage, and sell or donate. We move and assemble the apartment items first, then take the rest to storage, either the same day with two trucks or over two consecutive days.
Moving day plan
- Before the day: confirm the Obhur lift booking, parking at both ends and permits for gated compounds.
- Morning in Al Murjan: protect floors and stairs, then dismantle and pack floors in parallel.
- Loading: heavy items and marble low, fragile pieces strapped.
- The drive: review current Obhur diversions and choose the best way around the creek.
- Arrival: enter through the agreed gate or loading bay and unload by room.
- Assembly: beds and kitchen first, then wardrobes and majlis.
Load order for a longer-than-usual trip
On short moves within one district almost any sensible load order works. On a trip that loops around the creek through diversions and speed bumps, load order matters. The heaviest items such as fridges, marble tops and dismantled wardrobes go on the floor against the front wall and are strapped. Heavy cartons such as books go next to them, lighter cartons on top, and fragile items like art and mirrors stand upright between boards or mattresses. The first-night box goes in last so it comes out first.

Garden, pool and chalet furniture
Many Al Murjan villas have outdoor seating, umbrellas, barbecue gear and children's play equipment, and many Obhur destinations have gardens, roofs or chalets that need them. We take down large umbrellas and wrap their heavy bases, bag outdoor cushions, and clean grills of charcoal and grease before wrapping. Pool chemicals, gas cylinders and fuel do not travel in the furniture truck for safety reasons and should be moved separately.
Humidity and salt air at both ends
Both districts are close to the sea, with high humidity much of the year. Timber, leather and electronics suffer if left exposed for hours outside a building or on a balcony. We keep outdoor waiting time short, use fabric blankets under stretch wrap on wood so moisture is not trapped against the finish, and seal mattresses and sofas. If pieces must wait in Obhur for days before going inside, closed air-conditioned storage is the better choice.
Gated compounds and permits in Obhur
Some new housing in North Obhur sits inside compounds with gates and security, and some require advance permits for moving trucks, limit moves to certain days and hours, or ask for crew names and vehicle plates. Ask the compound management about their rules a few days ahead and we will send crew and truck details for you to submit. Our guide to building and compound permits in Jeddah explains what is usually requested.
How many trucks does this route need?
By Jeddah standards the distance is moderate, but longer than a move between neighbouring districts, and a second run means looping around the creek again, possibly through diversions. So on this route we prefer to send enough trucks from the start rather than rely on repeat trips. A mid-size villa may need two or three trucks; a large apartment one or two. We confirm after the inventory.

Best timing and common mistakes
- Weekday mornings are best, before visitors fill the Corniche.
- Avoid major event days near the Corniche Circuit and waterfront.
- Book the first available tower lift slot so the job does not run into the evening.
- Do not rely on map distance; allow for the creek loop and diversions.
- Do not move a whole villa into an apartment without sorting first.
- Never leave furniture on a balcony in sun and humidity.
Moving to South Obhur instead is shorter, as no creek loop is needed.
