Corner and Sectional Sofa Moving in Jeddah
An L- or U-shaped corner sofa is one of the hardest living-room pieces to move: long, heavy and rarely able to pass through a door or lift in one piece. We move it methodically: measure the route in both homes, separate the modules, remove legs and arms, wrap each section for its material, and reconnect everything in the new living room so it sits as one sofa again.

Why corner sofas need special handling
Corner sofas are designed to fill a room corner, so they are long: one side can exceed three metres, with a shorter side and a corner unit between them. Even when they come in modules, each section is heavy and wide, and some hide a sofa bed, power recliners or storage boxes under the seats. On moving day three problems come up again and again: the sofa will not fit through the door or lift, the fabric tears against walls, or the connectors go missing so the modules never line up properly again.
Almost all of these can be avoided by planning before moving day rather than forcing things on the day.
Types of corner sofa and how we handle each
| Type | What matters when moving |
|---|---|
| Modular sectional | Usually easiest: modules unclip from metal or plastic connectors and move separately. |
| One-piece L-shape | Hardest: it does not separate, so we remove legs and arms and manoeuvre at measured angles, or use a hoist. |
| Sofa bed | A heavy metal mechanism that must be strapped closed so it cannot open while carried. |
| Power recliner | Unplug, secure cables and motors, and never lift by the recliner mechanism. |
| Storage sectional | Empty the boxes and secure the lids. |
Measure first: the step that prevents problems
- Width and height of the front door and the living-room door.
- Width of corridors and turns between the door and the living room.
- Inside lift dimensions, including the diagonal from a bottom corner to the opposite top corner.
- Stair width and ceiling height above landings.
We compare these with each module's length, depth and height. As a rule of thumb, a section usually passes if its depth or height is smaller than the door width, because we carry it on its side. If it is larger than every opening, the options are deeper dismantling or a hoist from the balcony. Our guide on measuring lifts and hallways before moving explains how to measure.
Send a photo of your sofa plus the new door and lift measurements on WhatsApp and we will tell you whether it fits and how we would move it.
How we dismantle a corner sofa
- Cushions off: bagged and labelled by module.
- Separate modules: find the connectors under or behind the seats and release them without breaking.
- Remove legs: most twist or unscrew off, saving centimetres that can make the difference.
- Remove arms and backs where possible: some models use bolts or clips.
- Lock mechanisms: sofa beds and recliners secured closed.
- Keep small parts: connectors, bolts and legs in numbered bags taped to the module.
Packing by material
Fabric
A clean cover or blanket first, then stretch film over the whole module, protecting against dust, stains and wall rubs. Light colours need extra care as they mark easily.
Leather and faux leather
Leather is never wrapped directly in stretch film for long, especially in Jeddah's heat, because plastic traps heat and moisture on the surface. A soft layer goes first, then film, with corner guards on edges.
Velvet and delicate fabrics
A double soft layer and no tape directly on the fabric, as it leaves marks.
Heat and humidity in Jeddah
A sofa left for an hour or two in an open truck under the Jeddah sun can heat up enough for leather to soften and show strap marks or creases. Fabric sofas near the sea can absorb humidity and develop marks or odours if sealed in plastic for days. We use closed trucks, keep waiting time outside the building short and start early in summer. If the sofa goes into storage first, we recommend an air-conditioned unit and removing the film after a while, leaving only the fabric cover so the material can breathe.
Getting through doors, lifts and stairs
This is where crew experience shows. A long section usually goes through standing on its end or tilted on its side, with one person guiding at the front and one supporting behind. In lifts we use the diagonal, and sometimes stand the section upright if the lift is tall enough. On stairs we pad handrails and wall corners at the turns and move one step at a time.
If a section will not pass any way, we suggest deeper dismantling if the design allows, or lowering it from a balcony by rope or with our furniture hoist. We never force it, because that can crack the inner timber frame even if nothing shows outside.

Loading the sofa in the truck
Long sections travel standing on their end or with their back against the truck wall, strapped so they do not tip on corners. Nothing heavy goes on top, because hours of pressure on the foam can leave permanent dips. Cushions stay bagged in a clean spot away from appliances and tools, and power-recliner cables are coiled and secured so they cannot snag during loading.
Reassembly in your new home
We place the modules according to your preferred layout, refit the legs, reconnect the sections and check that seats are level with no gaps. Cushions go back in their original positions, and we test mechanisms: the sofa bed opens and closes smoothly, and recliners work once plugged in. If the new room suits a mirrored layout and the design allows it, we can switch the chaise from one side to the other.
Three common situations in Jeddah
A large sectional on the fifth floor with a small lift
The lift will not take the long section even without legs. We try it upright using the lift height; if that fails we carry it down the stairs with padded turns, which takes at least four people for a large module.
A leather power-recliner corner sofa in a villa
Space is generous but the mechanisms are delicate. We unplug, lock the recliners closed, lift from the base frame, and test the motors after reassembly.
A second-hand corner sofa bought in another district
We collect from the seller, check every connector and leg is there, dismantle and wrap, then deliver and assemble. A small job, but it needs the same care so nothing arrives missing.
What affects the cost
- Number and weight of modules.
- Whether it separates at all.
- Floors and lifts at both homes.
- Need for a hoist.
- Special mechanisms such as recliners and sofa beds.
- Single-item move or part of a full house move.
If the sofa is part of a full living room or majlis move, see our majlis and living room moving service.
Preparing the sofa before we arrive
- Empty any storage boxes under the seats.
- Remove washable covers and keep them in a separate bag.
- Photograph the sofa from several angles, including how the modules connect.
- Unplug power recliners the day before.
- Clear the path from the living room to the door and remove loose rugs.
- Decide the sofa's position and chaise direction in the new home.
Mistakes that damage corner sofas
- Dragging the sofa across the floor, which breaks legs and scratches floors.
- Lifting by the arms or back, which are weak points.
- Leaving connectors loose, so modules never line up again.
- Stretch-wrapping leather directly in the heat.
- Skipping measurements and discovering at the lift that it will not fit.
- Stacking heavy items on top in the truck.
When not to move the sofa at all
Sometimes the most economical choice is not to move it. If the new living room is much smaller, the foam has collapsed, or it is a one-piece sofa going to a high floor with a small lift and no room for a hoist, the cost and risk may outweigh the sofa's value. We will tell you honestly before booking and suggest alternatives such as selling or donating it. Corner sofa moving: frequently asked questions
No. Modular sectionals separate easily, while one-piece L-shapes do not, so we rely on removing legs, manoeuvring or a hoist.
We measure the lift diagonal and try it upright; if it still will not fit we use the stairs with padding, or a hoist from the balcony.
A soft layer first, then stretch film, so plastic never sits directly on leather and traps heat.
Yes, a single sofa can be moved with a small crew and a suitable truck.
Yes, we reconnect sections, refit legs and test mechanisms before we leave.
If the design allows it, we can rearrange the modules to suit the new room.
Measure the smallest dimension of each module (depth or height), compare it with the door width, and send us the numbers to confirm.
